Stephen is proudly supporting Norwich City’s new Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Trans fans group and has been flying the flag at Carrow Road.
The Commissioner is pictured with Di Cunningham at Norwich City Football club with the group’s new banner acknowledging organisations across the country campaigning against Homophobia and Transphobia including, locally, Hate Free Norfolk and Norwich Pride.
Stephen said, “I am a keen follower of Norwich City Football Club and the clubs support for groups such as Proud Canaries sends out an important message to both fans and players that we will not tolerate verbal or physical abuse against people because of their perceived differences.”
Proud Canaries was officially launched at Carrow Road on Sunday 23rd February and is one of only two officially recognised LGBT supporters’ groups in the country (the other is the Gay Gooners) and as such is a founding member of the Gay Football Supporters’ Network Fan Group Coalition; aiming to encourage and advise LGBT supporters elsewhere to engage with their clubs and combat prejudice together.
The group is a social forum for Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Trans supporters of Norwich City FC but is also working with the club to make Carrow Road a safer and more pleasant place for everyone. The group has already recruited a key player – Stephen Fry – who has agreed to be the Honorary President.
