A new contract providing Independent Domestic Violence Advocates in Norfolk begins today, seeing Stephen team up with local charity Leeway in support of victims of domestic violence.
The IDVAs (Independent Domestic Violence Advocates) provided by Leeway Domestic Violence and Abuse Services provide help, support and safety advice to victims across the county.
“It’s a big day for victim support services in Norfolk, with our new victim assessment and referral service also launching,” Stephen said.
“IDVAs play a vital role in the multi-agency response to tackling domestic violence, focusing on those individuals who are considered to be at increased risk of significant harm." Stephen Bett
“Working alongside partners in Norfolk’s safeguarding ‘hub’, the IDVAs are professional case workers who use their skill and expertise to work closely with victims and their families. That support includes helping victims through the court process where appropriate.
“I am delighted to be leading this work to provide improved local services tailored to the needs of victims in our county.”
Mandy Proctor, CEO of Leeway said: “Leeway is delighted to have been awarded this 3 year contract from OPCC Norfolk. As the leading specialist Domestic Abuse charity in Norfolk we have been supporting people affected by domestic abuse for over 40 years and have been providing an IDVA service for the last 12 years. We work with partnership agencies to identify risk and implement safety measures for victims assessed as being at high risk of serious harm.”
